The school’s boys’ soccer team kicked off their season with a resounding bang, securing victories with their first two matches. The energy and determination displayed by the team left spectators buzzing with excitement.
In their first game on Sept. 15, Baruch faced City College Academy of the Arts in a showdown. The match, hosted at Randall’s Island, was expected to be a fierce contest but turned out to be a one-sided affair.
The midfield orchestrated a symphony of passes and runs, creating many scoring opportunities. The opening goal came fast as senior Maciej Kawecki showcased clinical finishing in the third minute. As the game progressed, Baruch continued to dominate possession and dictate the tempo.
The scoreboard kept ticking as sophomore Andriy Fitak and senior Javier Marciano contributed goals, putting the team comfortably ahead. Baruch’s defense remained unbreakable as it was led by center back Jake Hernandez and goalkeeper Darragh Boyle who defended the net to maintain a clean sheet.
The final whistle echoed with a 7-0 win in favor of Baruch.
In their second game on Sept. 21, hosted at Baruch’s home ground East River Park, the anticipation was high once again as they faced Community Health Academy of the Heights. This time, Baruch’s squad was even more determined to showcase their skills.
Kawecki delivered a hat-trick within the first 25 minutes. Within that time, Fitak’s clinical finishing seemed to leave the opposition stunned.
The whistle signaled a 11-1 victory for BCCHS. The match particularly demonstrated the boys’ teamwork as they had eight assists.
In a team huddle, Coach Mike Breman applauded the group for their performances in both matches and said it’s important to maintain discipline and dedication throughout the season.
As these students continue their journey in the league with two wins under their belt, they are determined to build on this momentum and strive for greater success. The players and coach are optimistic about the prospects of an unforgettable season and are working tirelessly to bring glory to their school.
Captain Aidan Wood, a senior, expressed his feelings after the two games.
“I’m feeling really good after the past few performances,” he said in a text message. “I feel really confident about this group and I’m hoping we can make a deep playoff run.”
