The girls basketball season started off with a bang and has continued at a solid pace. With an 8-0 winning streak, playoffs are in close sight.
Baruchians are confident that the girls will have a solid season, characterized by athletic success and a sense of camaraderie amongst the players.
Larenz Smith, a senior on the Baruch Boys Varsity Basketball Team, is confident about the team’s players and leadership. “The season is going to go well because of their great coach and newcomers, who seem to be great additions to the team,” said Smith. He also shouted out co-captain Lauren Caraballo. “She’s a great player and I always look forward to seeing her cut up the court.”
He also believes the previous seniors leaving won’t be a big problem. “Maybe teaching and learning new plays will be difficult, just like in any team, but for the most part it should be fine.”
Another senior, Maha Matug, is strongly assertive about the girls’ great deal of potential. “Last year I went to the game and it was a good rally,” said Matug. Though the 2023 seniors are gone, she doubts that will stop them from succeeding on the court. “The current seniors will carry the team and lead them onto a good season.”
Caraballo, a senior and co-captain of the girls basketball team is similarly optimistic–and she wants to set the right tone for the team as they head towards success this year. As captain, she wishes the best for her team: “I just hope and pray we make it to the playoffs.” She believes the girls’ enthusiasm has made their team even stronger. “Being enthusiastic makes it easier to tackle room for improvement.”
Overall, the Varsity Girls basketball season has been stellar. For now, the next significant event is their Homecoming game on Jan. 17th at 4:30PM in the Baruch College gym (be sure to bring your Baruch ID for entry).
Come and cheer them on to victory!
