“We are going to win,” said Girls’ Basketball Captain Lauren Caraballo two hours before the tip-off of the team’s highly anticipated homecoming game.
East Side Community High School was facing off against Baruch’s team which had an eight-game winning streak. The girls once again pulled out the win with a final score 63-47.
Some of the game’s highlights include multiple assists from Caraballo to center Dylan Sobey who had a whopping 29 points to end the game. Caraballo had seven assists.
This win was especially sweet for Sobey as after the game, the team celebrated her 16th birthday.
“Being able to celebrate my birthday with my team and during such an exciting game was so fun, and everyone had a great time. Everyone was so excited to play in the main gym and everyone in the stands was so supportive,” she said. “It was a super great game in which I reached my career high with the help of my teammates–especially one of our captains, Lauren.”
Freshman starter Layla Bouazzaoui put up seven points and had some assists to conclude the game. Freshman Kamila Crawford had six points and some steals. Makayla Valis and Nicholette Lopez also put up some points to help the team win, along with five combined rebounds.
Coach Mike Breman is very excited about the girls’ season this year.
“I’m proud of the team and how we’ve played honestly all season. We are ten and one right now, so it was a good game,” he said.
He also said he’d like to make borough championships after winning the next three games of the regular season. He said, “I want to finish strong.”
Baruchians are incredibly excited to see what this team can do in the playoffs starting next week. Constant supporter Karamoko Kaba loves to attend the games.
“I love supporting my school and the energy was there,” he said. Kaba referred to himself as the “number one basketball fan in Baruch.”
The energy is high as the girls rev up for senior night and the playoff season. Lets go Baruch!
