As it gets colder and the need for a jacket surges once again, many have already understood the fact that summer is over. Those returning Baruch have already accepted it, but what about those starting a new school? What did the freshmen think of Baruch upon first impression?
On the first day, their thoughts flowing with anticipation, worry and regret from not enjoying their summer enough— many have been there, one way or another. But it’s been a while since school has started— so how do they feel about Baruch so far?
A common reaction throughout the freshmen grade is how small Baruch is, as it ended up shocking many of them upon first impression.
“My first impression was that the school is really small. I feel like the community is really connected because it isn’t a big school.”
When asked about the community as a whole, it was clear that many freshmen shared the same opinion. They had similar experiences with students, staff and teachers, and had similar takes on how they felt about the community— small, connected and friendly.
Das talks about how his experience has been at Baruch so far:
“My time here has been nice, I’ve been getting to know new people, make new friends… The teachers are really nice and helpful, and everyone is welcoming… The students are nice too. I feel comfortable,”
Alejandra Morena explains what she likes about the school and what concerns her:
“It’s been okay, the people here are nice, but after a while it’s hard to interact with new people since they already have their own groups… I think most of the teachers are really nice— so far I like them, especially Ms. Gray, she’s so nice.”
When some of them were asked about the transition between middle and high school, however, there were varied responses.
Jacob Becerril describes his experience in the transition:
“The transition from middle school and high school is a lot different— the transportation and the workload, and the other stuff I have to do, I feel a lot more independent…Things are much harder,” Becerril said.
“It’s been difficult adjusting, but the teachers are always really helpful,” said Zheng.
Many freshmen share similar experiences and opinions about Baruch— whether it be the small and connected community, the small campus, the kind and helpful teachers and staff or how everyone seemingly knows each other. Many freshmen have enjoyed their time at Baruch, and are looking forward to their years here.
