Baruch isn’t just a hub for academic excellence; it’s a melting pot of culinary preferences and passions. In the bustling halls and buzzing classrooms, students and faculty alike are celebrating a mosaic of global flavors.
“Mediterranean food has this unparalleled freshness to it,” said senior Lily Olsen, whose palate spans Greek, Japanese, Italian and Mexican dishes. “There’s an abundance of herbs, zest and that perfect acidity that adds a punch to every bite.” Her eyes lit up as she mentioned spanakopita and red pepper feta dip.
Senior Chris Radoina echoed Lily’s sentiments, expressing his profound love for Mediterranean cuisine. “It’s the diversity that captures me,” he said. “From Bronzino to an array of seafood and red meats, it’s a journey on a plate.” Whether he’s grilling Bronzino, a type of fish, or relishing a hearty meal, he embraces both sides of the culinary experience, though admittedly leans more toward savoring the dishes.
Teachers Jocelyn Forman and Amanda Benowitz also share their culinary insights, showcasing different sides of their foodie personalities.
“I’m both a cooker and an eater,” Forman said, sharing her love for preparing shakshuka, a dish she discovered during her time abroad. “It’s healthy, focused on vegetables and proteins, and making it myself adds that extra flavor.”
Benowitz expressed her love for Asian and Mediterranean cuisines, particularly sushi, which she enjoys ordering for its exotic appeal.
Even among the juniors, like Emma Duek, a passion for making food brews. Her love for baking, especially pies, has been a Thanksgiving tradition she cherishes. “Apple cranberry pies are my specialty,” she said. “It’s a nostalgic tradition that I’ve learned from baking alongside my grandma.”
From the exotic allure of sushi to the comforting warmth of homemade pies passed down through generations, every dish holds a unique place in students’ hearts.
As the aroma of spices and the sizzle of pans continue to fill the Baruchians’ homes, the love for food isn’t merely about eating for them—it’s a flavorful journey that interlaces cultures, traditions and generations.
