At Baruch High School, Culture and Community Day isn’t simply a random event: it’s a reflection of the people who make up our community, honor who we are and where we come from. Culture and Community Day is organized by our schools

Baruch Events Committee with Ms.Schaffer and Ms.Grove in collaboration with school clubs, affinity groups and our staff.
This day is dedicated to celebrating those who make up our diverse community.
The event will have a variety of activities where students come together and celebrate. There will be a cultural fair held in
the cafeteria where each grade will have its own timed period to attend. During that time, students will have the opportunity to play games like ping pong, do arts and crafts, participate in a planting station–and even do some karaoke. Our school clubs will also be hosting booths as well as food shared amongst each grade.
Ms. Schaffer, one of the coordinators for this event, broke down the planning for us. She explained how planning such a large event hasn’t been easy.
“There are a lot of moving parts. Coordinating so many people is both the hardest and best part,” she said.

Planning these types of events involves lots of communication with club leaders, staff, and students in order to have a successful celebration.
Some of our students have played a major role in making this event possible. Schaffer emphasized the important roles that two of our juniors have, Yvanne Rivers and Kimora Taylor.
“They work closely with me and Ms.Grove to create supply lists for all the booths. We hold meetings with the group events committee, communicate with club leaders and supervisors, and organize all the different parts needed to make the event successful,” she said.
One of the main events of the day is the cultural parade. Students are encouraged to represent their country in traditional clothing, jerseys–or anything that represents their ethnicity. The parade serves as a visual celebration and representation of our school’s diversity and allows students to present their identities. This parade will take place at the end of the advisory and students who participate in the parade will have the chance to win a $25 Chipotle or Starbucks gift card!
Food is also a major part of Culture and Community Day. Each grade is responsible for bringing food and snacks from their country to share with their classmates.
“The more snacks your grade brings, the more variety you will have,” she said.

It is highly recommended to bring in food so that everyone gets a chance to try different foods from around the world!
Culture and Community Day highlights our students and what makes our school unique. This year’s Culture and
Community Day will take place on April 22, 2026. We hope that you will join us at this special event that creates a space where everyone can feel represented, share their backgrounds.
And, of course, have fun!
